Does Tommy have his groove back? We think so... and if there is one thing we learned at NYFW, it's that Tommy's passion and drive to bring back the brand's 90's fame and popularity is stronger than ever. It's about time Tommy, we've been setting the stage for your comeback for years now!
Tommy's game changing NYFW event "Tommy Pier", kicked off Friday night, seeing a heavy hitting A-list of attendees. Gigi Hadid hit the runway, leading the walk for her 'Gigi X Tommy' line. Taylor Swift was first on the pulse sending out updates to her 90 million loyal fans. The event allowed access to 1000 Tommy fans, dubbed "The Normals", all very eager with phones and cameras in hand as the models made their way around the pier. The runway was being broadcast live at Tommy.com and the whole collection was instantly available to purchase onsite, in-store and online.
The Gigi X Tommy collection circled the runway first boasting cute nautical inspired looks. Even the Moto jackets were adorned with studded anchor motifs. Directly following came the Hilfiger collection, which I think confused most viewers as they still thought it was part of the the 'Gigi X Tommy' line. In any case, this is where we saw the most 90's influence come through. The line stayed true to Tommy's red, white, and blue colour pallet, with a more casual sporty feel. We saw Jerseys, track suits, crop tops emblazoned with large Tommy spell-outs, and there were over sized faux fur hoodies boasting the classic Tommy flag. Although there were a few pieces that stood out, it feels as though Tommy is just dipping his toes in the pool of 90's awesomeness when we feel he should be diving in head first stark naked.
If the runway show and the celebrities weren't enough to hold everyones attention, then the carnival rides, junk food, and exclusive Tommy Vintage pop up sure did. We were very honoured to be onsite for the whole two day event offering up for sale a never before seen 100% Vintage Tommy Hilfiger collection. To quote the man (Tommy Hilfiger) himself visiting our booth as he pointed to Frankie's creative director Sara Gourley, "Cover your ears, THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME".
When the gates opened on Saturday the pier was instantly mobbed with people and vintage Tommy was selling like cotton candy. The first purchase of the day was none other then the editor of Elle Magazine Brazil. Out of nowhere comes Kourtney Kardashian with all the kids in tow including her niece, North West. Next was Gigi Hadid's turn to shop. Gigi along with mom Yolanda and all the paparazzi in the 5 boroughs, stopped by our pop up in need of some exclusive vintage retail therapy. She looked gorgeous and composed, despite the 100 degree heat wave, and was a true sweetheart. She picked up some very unique pieces, some for herself and some potentially for inspiration (Gigi has signed on with as global ambassador for Tommy), she even picked up a jacket for her man, Zayn.
It was very validating to be recognized as the leaders in Vintage Tommy Hilfiger by the man himself, Tommy Hilfiger. We had a great time at the event and can't wait to see what the future has in store for "Frankie Collective X Tommy Hilfiger". Stay Tuned!
